King Alfonso XIII wanted Madrid to have a hotel to rival the Ritz in London and Paris, and in 1910 he got one. It stands right next to the Prado Museum, and its Belle Époque façade is a listed national monument.
After a major restoration it reopened under Mandarin Oriental. It's the most elegant base in Madrid for exploring the Prado, the Retiro Park and the Paseo del Arte.
